Director's notes:
We wish to present a documentary that not only shows the astounding dimensions of the catastrophe of the virgin sex myth as a cure of aids, but also highlight the people that are working to fix it and make a difference!
We face a crisis in our own country of huge incarceration rates, that clearly violates human rights and destroys the lives of millions of people, who were non violent and their crimes “victim less”. This has created a massive police state that daily violates our constitutional rights and grows in power everyday, but most of all, the draconian prison sentences and brutal, harsh methods of intimation are not working. We clearly need a different way of solving our social problems, like the people in South Africa, and people everywhere, maybe we can all work together.
Carlo Burton aka Charles Evans DGA/SAG through years of working with at risk people and animals, has come up with a methodology of problem solving.
This methodology, more or less:
Locate the person or being with the problem. Early intervention is most productive. Everybody has problems, you are not alone. There are people and programs to help you change. This is the first day of the rest of your life and your choices determine your life.
Be in or create a safe environment
Build a relationship, set up channels of communication, be interactive, follow leads of the person with the problem, let them ask and answer the questions. LISTEN.
Establish the problem, go over the pros and cons of fixing or not fixing the problem. Stress personal responsibility and accountability.
Build a team to help solve the problem
Actualize solutions, reflect on progress, be specific, focus on improvement and effort, not the final goal,
Teach EMPATHY.
Be POSITIVE.
This problem solving methodology appears to be embedded in our collective conscious through millions of years of use and might be a genetic imprint when triggered.
Combine this in a institutional approach to the problem, including government, education, media, etc and have academic sharing of data and "follow up" to determine results, and a comprehensive approach to solving the problem can be set up.
Then support grass roots problem solvers already on the case and provide them with what ever assistance they need!
Betty in Zimbabwe is doing just this in her approach to solving the virgin sex myth as a cure for aids.
